Japanese Bancha Green Tea

This Japanese Bancha loose leaf tea is a lovely green tea that originates from Japan.

Japanese Bancha green tea is significantly stronger and more full-bodied than most green teas that we come across. This is because it is made of mature tea leaves and stems from the autumn harvest as opposed to the more commonly used younger leaves. Bancha has a strong grassy smell and brews to make a vibrant green tea with a slightly smoky aftertaste.

For this Japanese Bancha loose leaf tea, we suggest taking great care not to over brew. As a matter of fact, the same can be said for all green teas. For an optimally tasting beverage, we highly recommend that you boil your water and then leave it for about 2-3 minutes for its temperature to decrease just a touch. Then, and only then, begin brewing, making sure to keep the duration of the brewing to a maximum of three minutes. This allows the fresh spring grass flavour to come out but not the bitter edge that puts some people off green tea.
