Description

Japanese cherry loose leaf tea is a strong, but smooth, green tea base with natural cherry flavourings and rose petals. The cherry provides the sweetness to combat the slightly bitter edge of the green tea, and the rose petals produce a lovely aroma, which aims to bring the spirit of the Japanese spring cherry blossom festival, “Hanami”, to a cold and rainy Carlisle!

The trick with this Japanese cherry loose leaf tea, like other green teas, is not to brew it for too long. We recommend, for the best result, to boil your water and leave it for about two to three minutes. This allows the temperature of the boiled water to decrease ever so slightly. At this point, start brewing your tea. Furthermore, we feel that it is important that the tea is left to brew for no longer than three minutes. This allows the fresh spring grass flavour to come out but not the bitter edge that puts some people off green tea.

I first tasted this on a visit to Carlisle in 2019. I have tasted a few Japanese cherry teas, but none have been as fine as John Watt’s version. It is the only one I buy now. Enough said.
